This is just a short note to explain who we are at Horizon Wealth Management (“Horizon”) and the services we provide to the Firm.

Horizon is the appointed Financial Adviser to both the Firm Superannuation Fund and Group Salary Continuance Plan.

Horizon’s role is to provide you with:

  • Education
    This includes education on the features of your Superannuation Fund together with the knowledge that you require in order to maximise the use of superannuation as the primary vehicle for retirement.
  • Advice
    Should you wish to avail yourself of this service, Horizon can assist you with the completion of a personal financial plan.

Horizon has created a checklist to assist you with the administration applicable to both your Superannuation Fund and Salary Continuance Plan. The intention of this document is to highlight the areas that you may wish to focus your attention on and possibly seek personal financial advice.

CHECKLIST

  • Step 1. Your Superannuation Fund

    Upon joining the Fund, you will receive a Welcome Kit which will consist of:

    • “Investor Statement” which outlines your specific account details. For example this will include your account number, your insurance benefits, if a tax file number has been provided on your behalf and contact details for MLC.
    •  “PDS (Product Disclosure Statement)” providing an overview of MLC MasterKey Business Super.
    • “Consolidate your Super Form” to assist you with consolidating other super funds you have elsewhere.
    • “Beneficiary Nomination Form” which is used to assist you with nominating your beneficiarie/s.

Please Note:

    • Special attention should be given to the completion of the “Switch Form”. If this is not completed, your funds will be invested in the default option. The default fund is the MLC MySuper Option.
    • Select the level of Life Cover and TPD (Total and Permanent Disablement) cover required. Special attention should be given as the Firm has nominated a minimum level of cover. The level of cover nominated is $600,000 for both Life and TPD. You may be required to undergo a medical assessment should you require a level of Life Cover and TPD above this amount. To increase the amount of insurance cover you currently have, you will need to complete a “Request for Insurance Form” from MLC.
    • Family Accounts. Your family member (e.g. Spouse) may opt to join the Harmers Workplace Lawyers Superannuation plan. Effectively every member can add their family members to the Employer Plan and thereby derive the following benefits.
      – The group fee structure will extend to the joining family members, ie, they are also entitled to the same management fee rebates as all other members.
      – The family members that join may apply for insurance cover subject to evidence of health. The insurance premiums are based on group insurance rates and are determined by age and occupation. They are normally cheaper than retail rates. Please refer to the “MLC Business Super Product Disclosure Statement” for details.
  • Step 2. Salary Continuance InsuranceYou will be required to complete the Group Salary Continuance Insurance Personal Statement if:
    • Your current base salary exceeds $71,006 pa or
    • You receive an increase during your tenure with the Firm, which results in your base salary exceeding $71,006 pa. Provided you join the plan when first eligible, you will be automatically covered under the Firm’s Group Salary Continuance Policy without any need to complete a personal statement. However, you need to confirm this with the Office Manager.If you would like to view a copy of the Firm’s Group Salary Continuance Policy, please contact the Office Manager. The Office Manager can either e-mail you or provide a hard copy of this document.
  • Step 3. Superannuation Consolidation

    Should you have a superannuation account from a previous employer or other superannuation accounts that have been set up during your working career you may wish to consolidate them into the Firm Superannuation Fund.The benefits include:

    • Reduces paperwork – there is less administration hassle in managing a single account,
    • Avoid paying multiple sets of fees, and
    • Easier to control your investments – your investments should be more effective in one account than in many which means that you will always know exactly how much you have accumulated.
